Outstanding, progressive, and holistic delivery of quality care and education.

At Lower Bucca Community Preschool, we advocate that play is the avenue through which children learn, develop, and thrive.

About Our Preschool

We are a not-for-profit service that offers a rich, unique preschool program, set in a 2.1 acre natural playground with the original school building servicingh our indoor program.

Children attending the Preschool have opportunities to learn in our welcoming indoor and outdoor spaces.

We are strong advocates for outdoor play and allowing children to make memories and connections with nature. By responding to interests and needs we aim to enrich the lives and identities of the children and families of our preschool community.

The ‘olde worlde’ charm of this 100 year old school house is complimented by our educational program which engages challenging and hands-on learning in the natural setting of our expansive playgrounds.

As a community preschool we enjoy our close relationships with families and seek to create a relaxed, safe and inviting atmosphere where children, families’ and staff feel a sense of belonging.

Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of voices within our community – children, parents, staff, and local stakeholders – we continuously refine our approach to early childhood education. Grounded in the principles of the Early Years Learning Framework and National Quality Framework, our philosophy is infused with deep reverence for the natural world and boundless enthusiasm for outdoor exploration.

Mission:

Each child steps into our idyllic surroundings, where the beauty of nature serves as both the muse and mentor. Here, amidst the picturesque landscapes of Lower Bucca, our little learners discover a world brimming with possibilities. Guided by our dedicated educators, they embark on a journey of discovery, where every moment is an opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive.

In our carefully curated environment, every corner beckons with promise – a space where children are encouraged to explore, create, and imagine to their heart content. Whether engaged in small group activities, basking in the joys of free play, or participating in structured learning experiences, each child is empowered to chart their course, supported by a team of nurturing professionals who understand the profound impact of their surroundings on every aspect of development.

We believe that sustainability isn’t just a buzzword – it’s a way of life. Through our comprehensive environmental educational program and emphasis on practical life skills, we instil in our young learners a deep sense of responsibility for themselves and the world around them. From composting to conservation, every lesson is an invitation to become stewards of our planet, ensuring a brighter future for future generations.

The value of play:

At Lower Bucca Community Preschool we recognise play as the cornerstone of childhood and we are dedicated to providing rich, meaningful play experiences that inspire curiosity, ignite imagination, and foster holistic development in every child.

  1. Cognitive Play: Play fosters cognitive growth by challenging children to think critically, solve problems, and make decisions independently. Through imaginative play, they develop essential skills such as planning, sequencing and logical reasoning.
  2. Creativity and Innovation: Play stimulates creativity and innovation by allowing children to experiment, invent, and explore new ideas. Whether building with blocks, painting a masterpiece, or inventing stories, play encourages out-of-the-box thinking and originality.
  3. Emotional Regulation: Play serves as a natural outlet for emotional expression and regulation. Children learn to navigate and understand their feelings as they engage in dramatic play, role-playing different scenarios, and expressing themselves through art and storytelling.
  4. Physical Health and Well-being: Play promotes physical health and well-being by encouraging active movement and exercise. Whether running, jumping, climbing, or balancing, children develop gross and fine motor skills, strength and coordination through play activities both indoors and outdoors.
  5. Social Skills: Play provides invaluable opportunities for social interaction, cooperation, and collaboration. Through play, children learn essential social skills such as sharing, taking turns, negotiating, and resolving conflicts, laying the foundation for positive relationships and effective communication.
  6. Resilience and risk-taking: Play allows children to take safe risks and explore their boundaries, fostering resilience and confidence. Whether climbing a tree, trying a new game, or interacting with peers, children learn to assess risks, over challenges, and bounce back from setbacks, developing resilience and a growth mindset.
  7. Cultural Diversity and Awareness: Play exposes children to diverse perspectives, cultures, and experiences, fostering empathy, tolerance, and appreciation for differences. Through multicultural toys, books, and role-playing activities, children develop a broader understanding of the world around them and learn to respect and celebrate diversity.
  8. Joy and Well-being: Above all, play brings joy, happiness, and a sense of well-being to children’s lives. It allows them to experience the sheer delight of being in the moment, exploring their interests, and connecting with others in meaningful ways.

The Bucca children are provided with abundant opportunities for exploration in our spacious environment.

Each day, we joyfully engage with and educate a group of 24 children, tailoring our approach to meet the unique needs of each individual. Ensuring they thrive in a nurturing and supportive environment.
